If the name Belong doesn’t ring a bell, their parent company might sound familiar. Belong was launched by Telstra in 2013 to deliver simple, good-value internet.
Carbon emissions are an inevitable cost of running a business, but carbon neutral companies like Belong can reduce consumers’ impact on the planet. If you want to learn more about your own carbon emissions, Belong has a whole app dedicated to calculating your carbon footprint, along with resources on how to reduce it. You can check it out on their website.
Belong’s carbon neutral strategy draws upon the wisdom of First Peoples’ connection with Country, which has continued for over 65,000 years in Australia.
All of Belong’s NBN broadband plans come with unlimited data, so you can stream, browse, and game to your heart’s content. From there, they offer a few different tiers of plans with different typical evening speeds. A typical evening is usually the peak user period from 7 pm-11 pm each day, when internet service providers can experience a high volume of NBN usage. The internet speed you could need will depend on a variety of factors which may include the number of people in your household and how you use broadband.
All Belong plans come with the choice between a month-to-month plan or a 12-month contract. And with Belong, it pays to stick around. With a 12-month contract, they’ll include a WI-FI modem and you’ll be locked into a slightly better price.
Please note that iSelect only compares selected Belong internet plans, not every single plan directly offered by Belong.
In 2019, they were the first telecommunications company to go completely carbon neutral. Telco and IT companies help reduce carbon emissions by connecting people in a way that reduces the need for transport by allowing for video conferencing. However, the industry also creates more than half a million tonnes of CO2 emissions every year.
To offset this, Belong measures the carbon footprint of running their business and then invests in renewable energy projects that remove an equivalent amount of carbon from the atmosphere. Belong will invest in existing projects like Telstra’s Murra Warra Wind Farm and Emerald Solar Park in Queensland or help fund new ones.
All internet providers bring the same NBN infrastructure to your household or business, but they don’t all do it the same way. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons people stick with Belong:
Flexible plans: If you’re not ready to commit to one plan for a full year, you can opt into Belong’s month-by-month plans.
No peak periods: But not Belong. Whether you’re watching Netflix at 6pm or playing video games at 3am, the speed and cost will remain the same.
Everything online: If you need to access your account, manage your service or get help, you can do it all online.
Belong have picked up a range of awards for both the value of their NBN products, as well as for their environmental focus. For example, they won the Finder Awards “Green Telco Of The Year” in 2020, and in the same year they won Canstar Blue’s award for “Outstanding Value NBN Plan.”
Aside from their carbon neutrality pledge, Belong also partner with Coder Academy, which helps introduce young kids to coding.
If you’re already set up with NBN equipment, Belong can usually activate your new service within 2-7 business days. If your property is being connected to the NBN for the first time, a certified NBN technician will have to connect you. You can schedule your appointment with the NBN tech through Belong’s website.
Like most NBN plans, Belong is available in most capital cities and major regional hubs.
They’re also working with NBN Co. - the company overseeing NBN rollout in Australia - to bring their service to more areas. But if the NBN isn’t in your area yet, you may be able to get Belong ADSL instead. And they’ll even help you switch to an NBN plan once it’s available at your address.
