Who owns Lumo Energy?

Lumo Energy is as Australian as burning yourself with a hot seatbelt buckle in the middle of summer. The retailer is owned by Australia’s own Snowy Hydro – one of the country’s biggest providers of renewable energy – and offers both electricity and gas services to Aussie residents and businesses.

What makes Lumo Energy special?

Award-winning service

While Lumo Energy might be a little more fresh-faced than other Energy Providers, they’ve got plenty of experience delivering great service and the industry recognition to prove it. In fact, since 2010 they’ve earned themselves over a dozen awards for quality service, as provider of the year and most notably for having the most satisfied customers across solar, gas and electricity.

Maybe its Lumo’s quick call response times (98% of calls answered within 30 seconds) that did the trick!

A carbon-neutral company

It’s all well and good to offer carbon-neutral plans but what about practising what you preach? That’s what Lumo Energy does. All Lumo Energy’s Australian business operations are 100% carbon neutral as certified by Climate Active. From using only GreenPower in their offices to choosing a video conference over travelling to meetings, Lumo Energy shows just how easy it is to reduce your emissions, whether it’s at home or at work.

Partnered with community groups big and small

If you’re in need of a laugh, a helping hand or a great game of netball, Lumo Energy has your back. They’re proud supporters of the Adelaide Fringe Festival, the Salvation Army’s ‘Safer in the Home’ program, and both the Melbourne Mavericks and Waverley Night Netball Association.

Where is Lumo Energy available?

Lumo Energy could be your next energy provider if you live in Victoria or South Australia. If you call somewhere else home, unfortunately Lumo Energy isn’t in your state or territory. Even if you are in Victoria or SA, what plans you may be able to access could depend on your specific location.

What kind of plans does Lumo Energy offer?

If you’re looking to skip the bells and whistles in favour of plain value, Lumo Energy could be the way forward for you. With variable rate plans that come free of exit fees and contract terms, you could enjoy flexibility without the fine print. If you live in South Australia, you may be able to access Lumo’s Rewards program and even be rewarded for paying your bills on time. Pays to be punctual, they say!

How much does Lumo Energy cost?

Like snowflakes, no two energy bills are the same. While this is a good thing to ensure you’re not paying for energy you aren’t using, it does mean it can be a little tricky to accurately estimate what you’d pay on a Lumo Energy plan. However, the Default Market Offer (DMO) or Victorian Default Offer (VDO) could give you a little more clarity on your electricity bill.

Both the DMO and VDO could give you an idea of what is a reasonable price to pay for electricity according to your distribution area. You can see what the current DMO is via the Australian Energy Regulator, while the Essential Services Commission handles the VDO. Or, if you want to halve the work for yourself, you can use our online comparison tool to see how Lumo Energy plans and other options fare against the relevant reference price.

You might find that a Lumo Energy electricity plan comes in substantially cheaper, try 13%, than the VDO, giving you more bang for your buck. Of course, this can depend on your postcode.

But what about gas? Unfortunately, you’re going to have to do a little more footwork to figure that one out. There’s no benchmark price for gas, but you can get a personalised estimate of what you could be paying on a range of plans through iSelect.

Does Lumo Energy have solar options?

Bringing your own solar-generated electricity to the party can be a simple yet effective way to trim some fat from your electricity bills, thanks to some feed-in credit. Conveniently, Lumo Energy offers solar feed-in tariffs with their electricity plans.

Imagine the guilt-free feeling of cranking up the aircon on a blistering hot summer day. It helps to have certainty, so you don’t have to deal with bill shock when it hits you. With EvenPay, you know exactly how much you’ll be paying in energy costs using an estimate of your future energy use. The payments are interest free and you get to decide how often your payments go out. How’s that for keeping a cool head?
