ahm offers a range of different policies that include some form of ambulance cover. Depending on which policy you choose, you’ll usually be covered for one the following: 

Medically Necessary Ambulance Transport

As the name suggests, these are ambulance trips that are medically necessary. They don’t necessarily have to be emergencies, but they can’t just be for tests or trips where you’re not admitted to a hospital.2ahm – Ambulance explained

Emergency Ambulance Transport

These are ambulance trips for urgent, medical emergencies. These would usually be for illnesses or injuries where it’s important to get you to the hospital as quickly as possible.3ahm – Ambulance cover 

Keep in mind that policies which cover medically necessary ambulance trips will also cover emergency trips.

Can I get Ambulance Only Cover with ahm?

ahm doesn’t offer ambulance cover as a standalone product. If you want to get ambulance cover with ahm, you’ll have to buy one of the following policies: 

  • Starter Basic Hospital Cover
    This policy covers medically necessary ambulance trips. Singles policies get one trip while couple and family policies get two.4ahm – Starter Basic Product Guide (Page 3)
  • All Other Hospital Cover
    Anything above a ‘Starter Basic’ policy offers unlimited trips for medically necessary ambulance.5ahm – Form and Guides (Under ‘Hospital cover guides’) 
  • Extras Only Cover
    All ‘Extras Only’ policies pay unlimited benefits towards emergency ambulance services. However, there is a one day waiting period before you can claim these benefits and it doesn’t include non-emergency ambulance services.6ahm – Ambulance explained
  • Hospital and Extras Packages
    These policies combine hospital and extras cover, and they all offer some benefits for medically necessary ambulance trips. The ‘starter flexi basic’ package covers one trip for singles and two trips for couples and families; the other packages cover unlimited trips.7ahm – Form and Guides (Under ‘Hospital and extras packages guides’)  

Of course, you won’t just be getting ambulance cover with these policies. Hospital cover can also help with your medical costs when you get treated in a hospital as a private patient. Extras cover pays for a range of general services, which may include dental, optical and physiotherapy—though this also depends on the specific policy you choose.
