Who owns ENGIE Australia?
ENGIE is a big name on the international energy scene – particularly when it comes to renewables. With roots in France, the near-bicentenary business has a rich legacy including its work on the historic Suez Canal in the mid-1800s. ENGIE has since branched out across five continents into 31 countries and is committed to decarbonisation, aiming to reach net zero by 2045.
Here in Australia, ENGIE has been around since 1996. You may recognise the company better as Simply Energy, before officially rebranding to ENGIE in 2024. Today, the provider takes care of the energy needs of 400,000+ Aussie homes and businesses with more than 700,000 electricity and gas accounts.
What makes ENGIE special?
Plans that come loaded with perks
With ENGIE’s range of energy plans you can enjoy sign-up extras that are far more exciting than a free pen. Depending on your plan and where you live, you could get discounts on everything from daily essentials, like fuel and groceries – to the luxuries that make life worth living, like holidays.
Making it easy to go green
With 100% carbon neutral energy plans certified by Climate Active, it’s easy to offset your emissions with ENGIE. But you can do even more for the environment and get rewarded for it. For instance, depending on where you live and the meter installed at your property, you could become part of the ENGIE Virtual Power Plant (VPP) if you have a eligible solar system with a battery. You can then share excess solar-generated electricity with your community and get VPP bill credits.
Partnerships to make you proud
Through its partnership with the Smith Family, ENGIE is helping empower in-need young Australians with education and life skills – supporting 90 student scholarships for schools that surround their projects and power stations as well as a Cadetship to Career program. Furthermore, ENGIE works with FareShare to reduce food waste by helping deliver more than 90,000 meals that would otherwise end up in landfills every year.
Putting customers and community first
Keeping customers front-of-mind makes it hard to go unnoticed. ENGIE has received top honours for three years in a row from customers of its gas supply services, particularly for cost clarity, value for money and overall satisfaction. ENGIE also takes a holistic approach to dealing with customers’ going through financial hardship and family violence with specialist teams and policies in place to lend a helping hand.
Where is ENGIE available?
ENGIE has plans available across the country, excluding the ACT, NT, and Tasmania. What plans you can access depends on your location (for example, if you live in WA you can’t purchase ENGIE plans through iSelect).
What plans does ENGIE offer?
It’s all about choice with ENGIE and its offerings. The retailer offers a comprehensive list of plans so there’s something for everyone. At a basic level, this includes:
Electricity |
Gas |
Solar |
Storage |
EV |
With ENGIE’s residential energy plans you could find new ways to save money. Alternatively, if you’re always looking for ways to keep our planet clean, an ENGIE carbon-neutral plan could tick the box for you.
If you’re solar power buff and your roof is packed with panels, ENGIE’s solar feed-in tariffs could offer you some sweet savings. Essentially, any excess energy that your system produces is diverted to the grid and in return you get a credit on your power bill. How’s that for a ray of sunshine?
Engie’s storage and EV plans are not currently available for purchase through iSelect.
How much does ENGIE cost?
Everyone’s ENGIE bill will differ according to their plan, location, and usage. However, using benchmark or reference prices like the Default Market Offer (DMO) or Victorian Default Offer (VDO) could give you an idea of what to expect when your electricity bill comes in. You can see what you might be paying on the DMO by looking at the Australian Energy Regulator site or on the VDO through the Essential Services Commission site.1For more information, see Australian Energy Regulator and Essential Services Commission
Alternatively, you can always get in touch with iSelect. Using our handy comparison tool, we can give you the rundown on a selection of plans from ENGIE and other Energy Retailers, including estimated costs and how they fare against the reference price.
It also pays to know that competition can get charged up in the energy market. That means retailers including ENGIE might offer plans that amount to significantly lower rates than the VDO or DMO. That being said, a consumer’s individual situation can also decide what plans are available to them.
Unfortunately, it’s a different story with gas. There’s no handy benchmark price. However, you can still get a personalised estimate through iSelect.
What solar options does ENGIE offer?
While ENGIE does have renewable options available, like their GreenPower and carbon offsetting opportunities, you can also bring your own sustainable electricity generation to the party. For instance, with ENGIE’s solar plan, you could use your own solar-generated electricity as you like and sell any excess off with a high feed-in tariff to help lower your electricity bill for those times when the sun isn’t shining. Plus, you can still take advantage of those carbon neutral perks and avoid worrying about exit fees or lock-in contracts.
Partner tip:

Did you know that in 2024, solar power systems were around 90% cheaper than they were about a decade ago, globally? From rebates to feed-in tariffs to carbon offsetting, the benefits and savings are piling up. Still, there’s no denying that installing a solar power system can be a huge investment.
Try ENGIE and its network of installers accredited by the Clean Energy Council to help you make the decision to get on the solar bandwagon and start soaking up those sweet rays of sunshine.
Frequently asked questions
I’m moving into a new property, what moving connection fees will I be charged?
Your moving fee is essentially charged by the energy distributor for your state (not by a retailer like ENGIE) and each state can have multiple distributors. So, it mostly comes down to your location. Because ENGIE as a retailer incurs the cost of your move, you can expect your bill to include a:
- Reconnection fee to begin supplying power to your new property
- Disconnection fee to ensure you’re not paying for energy usage at your previous property
- Remote connection/disconnection fee if you’re an electricity customer in Victoria and you have a smart meter
- Special read fee for when a lock gate or an excitable dog makes manually meter reading difficult
- Final read fee which is required to calculate your final bill
How can I pay my bill?
ENGIE offers multiple modes of bill payment to suit your convenience:
- Credit cards including Mastercard, Visa and AMEX
- Direct debit which you can set up on the MyENGIE customer portal
- PayPal using your bank account or credit card
- At an Australia Post Office (if you like doing it old-school) or AusPost’s BillPay
- BPAY online or on the phone through your bank
You can also call ENGIE directly to pay your gas and electricity in advance via a payment card or send a cheque and payment slip to ENGIE’s GPO Box in Melbourne.
Can I access my account online?
ENGIE’s customer portal MyENGIE lets you manage your account from any device. With this portal and, needless to say, a reliable internet connection you should be able to:
- Monitor your energy usage for both gas and electricity, including solar
- View and pay your bills or set up a direct debit to escape the hassle
- Access ENGIE’s help centre for round-the-clock assistance
How do I change my ENGIE plan?
