Who is Red Energy?

Red Energy is as Aussie as Vegemite and avocado toast. They’ve been 100% Australian owned since 2004 when they were acquired by Snowy Hydro Limited, the powerhouse that taps into the mighty Snowy River for electricity.

When you give them a ring, you’re greeted by the same friendly voice from start to finish. And guess what? That friendly voice is in Australia, making the whole experience feel like a chat with your next-door neighbour.

What makes Red Energy special?

But there’s more reason to recommend Red Energy than simply being Australian.

Make a green difference at home

Sometimes there’s just no room on your roof for a solar panel farm but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on doing your bit for the planet. Red Energy has made a renewable matching promise on a number of their plans. For each unit of electricity you use on that plan, they’ll match it by putting the same number of renewables back into the electricity grid to help keep Australia’s future green. They also offer carbon-neutral gas so you can live more sustainably without needing to do a home reno.

Champion the community

From the sports field to the zoo, Red Energy is helping local communities do what they do best. Red Energy partners and gives back to organisations like Breast Cancer Network Australia and Taronga Conservation Society Australia to change the lives and future of Australians, human and animal alike.

Find tips and tricks

Whether you’re looking for ways to save on electricity or tricks to make the next time you move run more smoothly, the bright sparks at Red Energy have a wealth of knowledge ready for you to read. Their Living Energy article library is packed with helpful tips and more to make life easier.

Where is Red Energy available?

Most Australians can join the Red Energy bandwagon with their reach covering South Australia to South East Queensland. Unfortunately, for regional Queenslanders, Taswegians, Northern Territorians and Western Australians, Red Energy currently isn’t in your market.

What plans does Red Energy offer?

Whether you’re a frequent traveller or the ultimate homebody, Red Energy has a range of Energy Plans available. These plans come packed with pluses, including solar feed-in tariffs and no exit fees or contract terms. But that could just be the beginning for you and Red Energy.

You could discover even more benefits from a range of Red Energy plans available in your area by giving iSelect a call or using our online comparison tool

How much do Red Energy plans cost?

Your bill from Red Energy will depend on the amount of electricity you use, along with the plan you pick. However, you could use the Default Market Offer (DMO) or Victorian Default Offer (VDO) to give you a ballpark figure to start working out your budget.

Both the DMO and VDO are standing offer prices that are set by regulating authorities to try and balance giving consumers access to affordable electricity while also keeping the lights on for the Electricity Provider. They probably won’t be the cheapest prices around, but they could be a good baseline to figure out if a Red Energy Electricity Plan could give you greater value.

You can check the Australian Energy Regulator’s site for the current DMO prices and the Essential Services Commission’s site will have the VDO prices.

Alternatively, if you want to cut to the chase, you could use our online comparison tool to see what you could be paying on a selection of Red Energy plans, as well as compare them to options from other providers.

What are Red Energy’s solar options?

If you have a solar system soaking up the sun’s rays, Red Energy may offer you a feed-in tariff for any extra electricity you’ve made. Your rate will depend on where you live and what plan you’re on, but it could be a way to make a little extra spare change to cover your electricity needs when the sun isn’t shining (assuming you aren’t storing that excess electricity away in a battery).

How can I pay my bills?

It’s not the Stone Age so you can pay your Red Energy bill more than just via snail mail (although a cheque in the mail is still an option too). If you like, you can make payments online, over the phone or using BPAY. For the frequent online shopper, you can also pay in person at an Australia Post Office.

Can I access my account online?

Whether you wake up at 3am worrying about your energy bills or like to do your life admin on your lunch break, you can use Red Energy’s MyAccount feature to stay up to date. Let them know you’re moving, manage bills or add new services from this streamlined and handy online account.

Where can I find and compare Energy Plans?

If you’re sick of seeing red when your energy bill arrives, a new Energy Plan could be just what you need. With iSelect and our convenient comparison tool,  you can check out a range of Energy Plans from different providers, including Red Energy. Alternatively, you can always give us a call on 13 19 20
