Long story short
WAS keeps travel insurance simple
This Australian insurer is focused on offering straightforward cover with useful features and no-fuss support, so you can explore the world without worry.
You’re covered at nearly any age
While the main applicant must be 18 or older, WAS offers travel insurance policies for nearly all ages (up to 99-years-old), so your date of birth doesn’t have to put a dampener on your travel dreams.
Award-winning cover without a huge price tag
WAS won an award in 2024 as one of the greatest value travel insurers, offering wide coverage at some of the lowest average costs around.
Who is WAS Insurance?
WAS – short for Wise & Silent – is an Australian company focused on providing travel insurance services that are all about safety and simplicity. Whether you’re jetting off to visit family overseas or chasing new experiences abroad, they want you to feel safe. WAS is all about working towards its goal of setting a new standard for travel insurers: no fluff, just cover you can count on.
What makes WAS Insurance special?
24/7 assistance
If something goes wrong at any point in your trip, you won’t have to wait around for time zones to line up. WAS’s 24/7 emergency assistance means you can call up or email for help in emergencies for a speedy claims resolution.
Award-winning travel insurance
WAS took out a 2024 award for best value coverage, recognised for offering some of the cheapest options on average across hundreds of quotes. Reliable and good value? That’s a win-win.
Cover for travellers up to 99
Your age shouldn’t stop you from exploring new countries or visiting your overseas family. At WAS, travellers up to 99 years old can get coverage for their plans, so they can travel with a sense of security.
What policies do WAS Travel Insurance offer?
COVID Essentials
Bags might get lost, flights might be missed, but if you end up injured or sick, it might mean an end to your long-awaited trip. COVID Essentials coverage could help cover your health with unlimited medical coverage, so you can get the care you need without worrying about the steep hospital bills. There is also cover if your trip must be cancelled or interrupted due to a covered, COVID-related reason.

Comprehensive
If you want protection from those unplanned accidents on your holiday, a comprehensive travel policy could help. These policies can include cover for delays, cancellations, rental car excess, baggage and more. So, no matter what happens, you’ll have the support a trustworthy safety net behind you.
Can I access my WAS account online?
WAS doesn’t offer an online portal for customers just yet. So, if you need to make changes to your policy or update your personal details, you’ll need to email, or call WAS directly.
Helpful tip

Planning a trip that covers a whole continent? Make sure your policy includes all the countries you’ll be stopping in (or crossing) so you don’t get caught mid-transit without cover. Some travel insurers will have the option to choose grouped destinations, like ‘Europe’. While it might seem like the easier option, it’s always worth confirming that all countries on your itinerary are included in the mix or if you need to add a few on top.

Frequently asked questions
What destinations can I get cover for?
WAS offers travel insurance policies for a wide range of destinations across the globe, including popular Australian holiday spots like Bali, New Zealand, the US and the UK. They also have grouped policy options that cover all of Europe, all of Asia or worldwide. Just make sure to double-check that all your trip locations are covered within these broader options.
How does my excess work?
Excess is the amount you’ll need to contribute if you end up needing to make a claim. It ultimately means that your insurer will reduce this amount from any claim payment, as your contribution. Most policies come with a range of excess options, so you can choose to pay a lower or higher amount, which will impact your premium. If you opt for a higher excess, you’ll often receive a lower premium. On the other hand, a lower excess might mean a slightly higher premium.
How do I make a claim with WAS?
If something unplanned decides to jump onto your itinerary, like a cancelled island boat tour, making a claim with WAS is simple. First, you’ll need to make sure you’ve documented the incident, keeping any relevant receipts or documents. Then, just complete the Robin Assist claim form (WAS’s third-party assistance partner) and submit your claim.
You should hear back about your claim within 10 business days.
How can I pay my bill?
You can pay for your policy by credit card.
