AIA Australia is part of the AIA Group, which can be found in 18 markets around the world. While AIA was first formed back in 1919, it wasn’t until 1972 that it made its way to Australia.1AIA – Sustaining Healthier, Longer, Better Lives

Why consider AIA for your life insurance?

Receive more than financial support if you’re unwell

As an AIA Australia customer, you can access dedicated programs and tools to get you back on your feet. For instance, if you need to talk to someone, their My Psychologist service can ensure you have an appointment with a qualified Australian psychologist within seven days, at a reduced fee.

Get extra motivation to look after your health

Your AIA Australia life insurance policy grants you access to AIA Vitality for a fee. This is a science-backed health and wellbeing program you can access on your smartphone. By making healthier lifestyle choices you can earn premium discounts, shopping rewards, and more.

A trusted and celebrated name in life insurance

As a member of the Council of Australian Life Insurers, AIA Australia follows their Code of Practice.2To learn more about the Code of Practice, see Council of Australian Life Insurers – Life Insurance Code of Practice This means they’re obligated to be transparent and fair with you. And they’re approach seems to have hit the mark with customers, as they’ve won multiple awards in the life insurance space.

What types of policies do they offer?

AIA has a range of life insurance options, including:

  • life cover: helps protect your loved ones if you’re diagnosed with a terminal illness or pass away
  • income protection: helps safe-guard your income. You can receive a percentage of your regular income each month for a selected period of time such as five years or until you reach 65 if you’re unable to work due to an illness or injury
  • total and permanent disablement: helps protect your lifestyle if you’re totally or partially permanently disabled
  • crisis recovery: helps ease the financial burden if you experience a serious health event which is covered under the policy
  • business expenses: helps cover your business expenses if you’re self-employed but cannot work because of illness or injury.

Depending on your policy, you (or your family) may receive a lump sum or regular payments to help reduce yours or your family’s financial burden. If you’re self-employed, this can also help to keep your business afloat.

Some policies may even have limited cover for immediate financial expenses or financial advice to help you manage claim payments.

You may be able to tailor your policy by adding extra features, picking from a selection of waiting periods and benefit periods, and more.

In life insurance, you can generally choose between two premium options: variable or variable age stepped.

Variable premiums

While variable premiums can increase each year for a number of reasons, they don’t increase each year due to your age.

Variable age-stepped premiums

Variable age-stepped premiums change with each birthday you have (and not just the ones you choose to celebrate). They start low and increase each year because of your age.

AIA Australia also has an additional premium type.

This is AIA’s optimum premium option. With an optimum premium, when you first take out your policy, you’ll have a variable age-stepped type premium. However, you’ll then switch to a variable premium type once that becomes the cheaper of the two premium options.

Can I access my account online?

AIA Australia doesn’t have an online portal to look in on your account. Therefore, it’s a good idea to keep your policy documents somewhere safe, including keeping both physical and digital copies.

If you do have any questions about your account, you can always reach out to AIA over the phone, by email, or even through the post.
