If you can fill the gap in a skills shortage in Australia, you may be eligible for a Subclass 482 Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) Visa. This visa allows employers to ease the stress of labour shortages by bringing in skilled workers not available in Australia.
TSS visa holders can work in Australia in their chosen job for their approved sponsor under three types of streams: the Short-Term stream, the Medium-Term stream, and the Labour Agreement stream.
TSS Visa Requirements
Passing the Health Requirement will be an important step in your getting your TSS Visa approved. As part of this requirement, you’ll be asked to provide evidence of sufficient health insurance that covers your entire stay in Australia.
Purchasing Overseas Visitor Health Cover (OVHC) is mandatory for most TSS visa applicants, and it also gives you greater peace of mind during your stay. Why? Because OVHC covers you for wider range of health issues and, depending on your level of cover, may save you time and money if you need treatment.
Do You Need Health Insurance On A TSS Visa?
In most cases, to meet the conditions of the TSS visa you’ll need to purchase TSS visa-compliant OVHC. In Australia there are many private health insurance providers with TSS visa-compliant OVHC policies to choose from. At iSelect, we understand that choosing the right policy for you can be a complex, and overwhelming decision.
However, we’re here to take that weight off your shoulders. We’re Australia’s leading health insurance comparison service. We can save you valuable time and effort, by comparing Australian health insurance policies for you.
Medicare & Reciprocal Health Care Agreements
If your country of origin has a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement (RHCA) with Australia, then you may qualify for access to Australia’s Medicare system and do not require additional health insurance.
However, this will only cover you for essential services and not more expensive health items such as ambulance, most dental work, a range of non-subsidised medicines, and private patient hospital costs which aren’t covered by Medicare Australia.
