Who is Lumo Energy?

Lumo Energy is owned by Snowy Hydro Limited, one of Australia’s largest and oldest renewable energy generators, dating back to 1949. They’re 100% Australian-owned and they partner with a bunch of awesome organisations that make a difference in local communities. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie. Lumo, Lumo, Lumo.

What does Lumo Energy offer?

Lumo Energy operates in Victoria and South Australia and offers both electricity and gas products, so you can combine your energy needs to make life easy. Queensland and New South Wales were serviced by Lumo, but have now been transferred over to Red Energy (also owned by Snowy Hydro).

How does Lumo reward their customers?

Lumo have come up with two ways to treat their customers:

Lumo Rewards Program: so this one is unfortunately only for some customers in South Australia (sorry Victorians), and only for customers who register for MyAccount. Lumo have partnered with some of the biggest brands in Australia so you can get  discounts on things like:

  • Groceries
  • Movie Tickets
  • Restaurants
  • Accessories
  • Homewares
  • Fuel
  • Gifts

Refer a friend: if you’re keen to share the Lumo love, you can refer a friend and both you and your friend will be rewarded with a $50 eGift card from a big Aussie retailer. The more friends you refer, the more you can potentially save on your next shopping bill. This one’s for both South Australians and Victorians residential customers in eligible areas. Here’s a list of the retailers you might score an eGift card for:

  • David Jones
  • Woolworths
  • Coles
  • JB HI-FI
  • Hoyts Cinema

What are solar feed-in tariffs?

Well, solar energy is a type of renewable energy generated from the light of the sun (you’re probably well aware of this). So it’s better for the environment. If you have solar panels installed on your roof, the power that’s generated will feed into your home and then any excess electricity will be fed back into the grid for other Australia households to use. So what’s a solar feed-in tariff? A feed-in tariff is essentially a reimbursement, which will appear as a credit on your energy bill. Think of it as a “thank you” for sharing some of your solar energy. How much rebate you receive can depend on:

  • Where you live
  • The tariff you’re on
  • When your solar panels were installed

What are my payment options?

Lumo makes payments super easy, with no fees on debit and credit cards (VISA, Mastercard, AMEX) And when it comes time to pay up you’ve got a lot of ways to do it:

  • Direct Debit: when you join Lumo, you’ll just need to set this up and then you’ll be good to go.
  • BPAY: biller code is 275602 and you’ll find your reference number on the second page of your bill.
  • Call 1300 926 153: Lumo’s phone line is open 24/7.
  • EvenPay®: pay equal amounts via direct debit weekly, fortnightly or monthly at no extra cost.

Can I manage my account online?

Sure can. Lumo has a great online account platform, which is super easy to use. You can use it to:

  • Check how much gas and electricity you’ve used
  • Pay and compare your bills
  • See your energy usage for each day, month or year
  • Export your energy usage data

It’s a great tool to monitor your usage and see where you can save energy and money on your next bill.

Why should I consider Lumo?

Well, first up, they’ve won lots of shiny awards. So that has to count for something, right? Check out their full brag list here. If that doesn’t get you across the line, then maybe the following will:

  • Competitive Rates: Lumo pride themselves on having great rates. In fact everyone one of their electricity plans today in Victoria is cheaper than the Victorian Default Offer. Which is the Victorian Government's standing offer pricing for electricity. So no matter what plan you decide to go with, you’ll be on a great rate. Same goes for the South Aussies. You no longer have to go with one of the two big dogs in town. In fact, Lumo are quite happy to take them on. Compare Lumo’s rates against our range of providers right here.
  • Australian-owned: Lumo is owned by Snowy Hydro Limited, one of Australia’s largest and oldest renewable energy generators. So if you go with Lumo, you’ll be supporting the Aussies.
  • No Lock-in Contracts: All of their energy and gas plans come with a no lock in contract. So if you decide to move house or you want to change plans you won’t have to worry about a hefty exit fee.
  • Award Winning Customer Service: They make you the “U” in Lumo. That’s literally their motto. So you know straight up you’re going to get great customer service. Over the past 10 years, they’ve been given the big thumbs up by Canstar Blue, Roy Morgan and Australia’s Reader’s Digest for their awesome service.
  • 24/7 Self Service: Every Lumo customer has access to MyAccount, where you can access your bills, change to eBilling and add concessions. You can also email, Facebook or call Lumo if you need further help.
